Holds New Gala Record
Nonprofit honored the Armin & Esther Hirsch Foundation and the Chicago Cubs at their biggest fundraiser of the year on November 11th
CHICAGO, IL – More than 325 guests escaped to a tropical island with no passport needed for the2016 FLIGHT Gala to benefit Children’s Oncology Services, Inc., on Friday, November 11th atthe Four Seasons Hotel-Chicago. Children’s Oncology Services hosted its 3rd annual FLIGHT gala with this culturally-themed gala representing destinations from around the world, with this lucky year as the Caribbean for their largest fundraiser this year. Children’s Oncology Services, Inc. operates One Step Programs, which give children facing cancer a chance to meet and bond with other pediatric cancer patients and survivors in a non-hospital setting. Many of these programs are provided to families at no cost. The event broke a record of raising more than$254,000. In addition, guests bid on flamingo stuffed animals representing sending a child with cancer to One Step Programs. Board member Dan Bernstein and host of CBS radio The Score’s “Boers and Bernstein”hosted the live flamingo auction and live auction to memorable trips around the world including the World Championship Chicago Cubs spring training VIP package. One Step Camp family Holly Lowrance and her daughter/camper Reilly addressed the crowd on the powerful impact of the nonprofit’s program.
Guests of FLIGHT enjoyed Caribbean inspired cuisine and dancing to music by the Becca Kaufman Orchestra. This year, Children’s Oncology Services presented two prestigious tribute awards:
The Richard Schwebel Award honored the Armin & Esther Hirsch Foundation. The foundation has supported the nonprofit since 1999 among its numerous charitable efforts. Bob Hirsch, Richard Hirsch and their families continue to show tremendous support for the children and families the nonprofit serves. Richard Hirsch accepted the award on behalf of the Hirsch family.
The Hospira Foundation Award honored the Chicago Cubs. For the past several years, the entire Chicago Cubs organization has shown tremendous support for the nonprofit’s One Step campers and their families. Chicago Cubs CFO Jon Greifenkamp accepted the award.
Northwestern Mutual was the event wine sponsor and Katten, Muchin, Rosenman, LLP co-sponsored the evening’s reception.
